remembering and forgetting

I am not sure if we are able to do either of these.
As we distort and change, propagate memories as compost heaps and flies.
Filled with the remnants of fruit - so sweet to eat months and years ago.
The smell is of the earth.
And nothing is ever truly gone. Even buried, there is the risk of a moment of sleep slipping into the coffin in which we keep our deadest memories.
